Visit the Amazing Green Animals Topiary Garden in Portsmouth, Rhode Island. Located on Cory's Lane in Portsmouth, Rhode Island, is Green Animals. On this small country estate, you will find a host of topiary creatures, ornamental figures, and geometric designs. In all, there are more than 80 pieces of topiary on the grounds. Of these 80, 21 of them are animals and birds.

Green Animals Topiary Garden is the oldest topiary garden in United States. The gorgeous seven-acre estate overlooks the Narragansett Bay. Kids and adults will both love all of the wonderful topiary creatures that make the garden their home. The animals seem to have a life of their own, and are one of the most beloved attractions in the area.

Some of the most popular creatures in the garden are the teddy bear, elephant, unicorns, reindeer, and a dog. Of course, there are plenty more. Everyone who comes to the topiary garden is sure to find one of the special Green Animals that will quickly become their favorite.

In addition to the topiary animals, visitors will also be able to see more than 35 formal flowerbeds, fruit trees, vegetable gardens, and more. You can walk among the beautifully created pathways and take in all the wonderful sights kept looking fantastic by some of the most talented horticulturists around.

The greenhouse is also an amazing sight. The seedlings, which will one day take their place on the estate grounds, are raised in the greenhouse. The plants that you see here could very well be the same ones you see in the gardens on your next visit.

Don’t forget to visit the Victoria Brayton House, a museum that is also located on the estate. At the museum, you will be able to see many different artifacts, including furniture, clothing, artwork, toys, and more from the 1800s. It is an interesting look into the past.

When you visit the gift shop, you can see ribbons that previous prizewinners have won, dating all the way back to 1915.

Getting There: Green Animals is located on Cory's Lane in Portsmouth, Rhode Island, about 30 minutes from Newport's Bellevue Ave. From Newport, follow Route 114 North. After passing Raytheon, continue another 1.8 miles. Turn left at a light onto Cory's Lane. Green Animals is a half-mile in on the left. From Points North, follow Route 24 South to Route 114 South. Cory's Lane is the first right, at a light, after Route 24 South ends. Green Animals is a half- mile in on the left.
